چکیده

The amount of water loss by the insensible perspiration from the dorsal skin area of the hand of Japanese males and females was measured through different seasons of the year. It is generally assumed that the insensible water loss increases proportionally to the increase in the air temperature, or the skin temperature (1). Our careful observations, however, demonstrated that the insensible perspiration of the back of the hand did not necessarily change according to seasonal temperature variations, but showed some characteristic features. Observations under some other conditions were made for considering the mechanism of the seasonal changes.

The dermal excretion under controlled environmental conditions of nitrogen and minerals in human subjects, with particular reference to calcium and iron.

Under non-sweating conditions there is a loss of nitrogen and minerals from the skin in the so called “insensible perspiration.” Since “insensible perspiration” occurs in all animals, regardless of the presence or absence of sweat glands, the term is not a good one. In man, insensible perspiration is evident to a normal extent in the rare condition known as congenital ectodermal defect (l), in ...

The 'third space'--fact or fiction?

For decades, the 'third space' was looked upon as an actively consuming compartment. Therefore, perioperative fluid regimens were traditionally based on a generous replacement of this assumed primary loss, in addition to deficits due to insensible perspiration and fasting. The practical consequence was an extremely positive fluid balance in order to maintain blood volume during major surgery. W...

A rational approach to perioperative fluid management.

Replacement of assumed preoperative deficits, in addition to generous substitution of an unsubstantiated increased insensible perspiration and third space loss, plays an important role in current perioperative fluid regimens. The consequence is a positive fluid balance and weight gain of up to 10 kg, which may be related to severe complications. Because the intravascular blood volume remains un...

Seasonal Variation in Floral Scent of Persian Musk Rose (Rosa moschata Hermm.)

The seasonal variation of volatile oil compositions (VOCs) from fresh flowers of Persian Musk rose was investigated by Combi PAL Headspace Techniques. In this study, a total number of 21 VOCs were detected by headspace on the Combi PAL System and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-GC/MS) from Rosa moschata Herrm. at different seasons which was representing 92.53-99.37% of total VOCs. The ...
